Job Title: Commercial Construction Superintendent

Location: Birmingham, AL (ability to travel to projects in the South East)

Job Type: Full-Time

We are a well established and reputable commercial general contractor servicing the Birmingham and surround markets for over 80 years.  We passed $80m in revenue in 2023, $105m in 2024 and are on track to surpass that in 2025 with $80m already booked into 2026.

We don't hire superintendents often and while we have a great need to add to the team, we will only look at qualified professionals that have proven longevity with previous employers. We have turned away $15-20m worth of work this year because we don't have the staff to commit the level of quality that our clients have come to expect.

If you are a proven successful superintendent on $15-20m commercial ground-up and heavy renovation projects and are looking for a long-term employer, please apply today and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Commercial Construction Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day operations of our construction projects. As the Superintendent, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of commercial construction projects from start to finish. This includes managing field operations, supervising construction crews, ensuring project timelines and budgets are met, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all phases of construction from pre-construction to project completion, ensuring work is completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Supervise and direct on-site construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with established quality standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage all day-to-day activities on the job site, including scheduling, material procurement, equipment utilization, and subcontractor management.
  • Conduct daily on-site inspections to ensure the work is progressing as planned, identifying and resolving any issues or delays.
  • Monitor project progress, adjust schedules as needed, and communicate project updates with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Enforce company safety protocols and industry regulations to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Review and approve subcontractor work, change orders, and any necessary adjustments to the construction process.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to on-site construction teams, fostering a positive and productive work culture.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution to minimize disruptions and delays.
  • Ensure the accurate documentation of daily logs, safety reports, material deliveries, and quality control inspections.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial construction with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, methods, and materials, including building codes and safety regulations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in project management software and construction management tools (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • OSHA certification (30-hour minimum) or equivalent safety training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required on job sites.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, retirement plans, etc.).
  • Paid time off (PTO) and holidays.
  • Career development opportunities and training programs.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.

If you are passionate about leading high-impact construction projects and have a proven track record of delivering exceptional results, we encourage you to apply for this opportunity to join our team as a Commercial Construction Superintendent.
